Journey of Faith

2006

2005

The Journey of Faith is the name we use to describe the process by which adults may be accepted into full communion with the Catholic Church. The proper name for this process is The Rite of Christian Introduction of Adults or RCIA.

The group meets in the Becket Centre every Monday evening at 8p.m during the school term, there are on average twenty people that includes helpers and enquirers. The use of the word enquirer is deliberate as this is not a missionary group. Initially the intention is to provide information to those who know nothing about the Catholic Church, its beliefs, practices and liturgical form. After an initial period of enquiry those who chose may move on to a gradual process of introduction culminating finally at Easter in Baptism, for those not already baptised, and/or Confirmation for those that are.

The RCIA is not a Journey made over a set period, nobody is automatically expelled if they have been coming for many years but are still not ready to be received. We have had instances of people who have come for as many as four years before feeling committed to join the community. On the other hand we have had those who have come for as many as six years and left without joining our community. Nobody goes away however, without knowing more about the Catholic Church and having their faith and love of the Lord Jesus Christ strengthened and deepened.
