Dear Parishioners,
I sometimes think that the work of the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) is one of those closely guarded secrets, well that is until now.
I am the current Chair, having been elected following the last AGM in November 2005. We consist of 12 members and we represent the three mass centres of St Thomas’s, Chigwell Convent and Buckhurst Hill. We meet on the first Monday of each month at 8.00 pm at the Becket Centre.
The minutes of our meetings are published each month and are displayed on the notice board at the back of the Church.
So what do we do?
Our role is to support Father Isidore and the Parish Community. In 2003 we created a Parish Pastoral Plan (PPP) and it is this plan which is the core of our discussions each month.
The PPP is made up of 10 key objectives. The Plan is a working document. The success of these initiatives is very much dependent upon on the enthusiasm, time and creativity of parishioners who volunteer their time and energy. We are continually seeking additional volunteers to help us in all of these areas.
In addition to the PPP, we are soon to launch a Becket Centre Planning & Social Group. Whilst the Group will assist in managing the Becket Centre it’s main purpose will be to promote and run Parish Social activities. If you are up for a bit of fun then watch out for flyers promoting the first meeting of this group on Thursday 23rd February at 7.30 pm at the Becket Centre. Please do come along and support this Group.
Finally, another good secret is the Parish Discretionary Funding. Are you aware that the PPC wants to make contributions from this fund to support all kinds of activities within our Parish community? Again, watch out for a flyer in the next few weeks that will tell you all about it.
