The coronation

We offered mass for King Charles and sang his anthem. I think we all enjoyed a memorable weekend. A Tablet article revealed insights of his deep commitment to his religious beliefs and practice. His commitment to the Church of England was foursquare and uncompromising. But equal has been his intent actively to encourage all faiths and Christian denominations. Well acquainted with St John H Newman he aligned himself with the saint’s quote: “...one of the most pressing questions of our era: what should be the relationship of faith to a sceptical, secular age”. His practice, often held up to ridicule, has quietly matched his words in seeking out the needy with money and action. We may hope to be pleasantly surprised. It is Catholic Social Teaching as well.
